Another Season of My Life Has Begun ~ Embrace The Change

"No one is in control of your happiness but you;
therefore, you have the power to change anything
about yourself or your life that you want to change."
- Barbara De Angelis
Through the years of ups and downs, screeching halts, and U turns, I have experienced in my life, its time again! I have officially closed the last chapter of my life and I am so anxious to open the next one. Life is never what you expect of it nor what you were ever originally hoping for. One thing I can say without a doubt is that life is what you make of it. I choose not to ever regret the decisions that I have made nor the things I have done. Without every step I have taken in my life (right or wrong), I would not be where I am today! When I reflect back on my life and the places that I have been, I have no choice but to be thankful for where I am now. Through failed relationships, single parenting (and co-parenting), old/new adventures, and new surroundings, I have truly learned so much about myself!

Embracing The Change

Nothing ever stays the same, which is what I love about my life! I live for the adventure of the change and the excitement of walking into the unknown not having a clue of what is to come. Maybe that is the thrill seeker in me, or faith in my heart, but I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. I am always so amazed at the doors that open after the closing of another, and how the rest of my life is affected by it. There are times that I am truly taken back at the people in my life that just come out of nowhere when I need them the most, especially those that have no idea the Reason they were put in my life, and what they have done for me. Some may never know, but I wish I will have the opportunity to tell them! ~List Item: Tell people what they mean to me.
Each person is in your life for a Reason, a Season, or a Lifetime.

Cheers, To Our New Beginning!

Welcome to Being a Grown Up ~ Get Over Yourself

Excuses That Will Make You Loose Your Shit!

Man must cease attributing his problems to his environment, and learn again to exercise his will - this is personal responsibility. ~Albert Schweitzer
Excuse: Not trying to take away from what I did, because I know it was wrong: but I did it because I can't always talk to you.
This is what I wanted to say: Oh, well that makes perfect sense now, because not being able to talk to your spouse and adultery typically go hand in hand!

Excuse: I know I messed up, but you owe it to me to give me another chance.
This is what I wanted to say: WHAT!!! Sorry to break it to you, pal, but I don't owe you shit!! Especially because this was your "another" chance!! Go F yourself!!

Excuse: We can not be friends anymore because I can not sit here and watch you let him get away with what he did, I didn't realize how much this would affect me.
This is what I wanted to say: Oh, I'm sorry my divorce is affecting you so much. Please tell me what you think he got away with?!? I'm sorry that you can't handle the fact that I can act like a grown up and don't find in necessary to be a raging B****!

Excuse: It seems to me that you are doing everything in your power to keep me from having a relationship with my daughter.
This is what I wanted to say: YES, that is exactly what is happening here, because we have been in court for the past 5 months trying to alter your visitation that you ARE NOT EVEN UTILIZING!!! Here is a thought why don't you show up to the visitation that you have!! ~GDA

Excuse: I realized that it was just the excitement I felt knowing I wasn't suppose to do it. I think it is a problem for me and I need to deal with it.
This is what I wanted to say: YOU THINK!!!! Hello, McFly......anyone home up there?!?!?

Excuse: I feel like you don't respect me and appreciate me and that is no reason for what I did its just some of the reasons why I feel I have to go talk to other people.
This is what I wanted to say:  WOW....Lets take a step back! If "talking" was all that you did then we wouldn't be having this conversation over divorce papers. RIGHT? Oh and please tell me again that I just need to trust you......YAH cuz that has worked out so well, thus far!!!!

Excuse: I don't think you should raise my rent because I'm a single mom.
This is what I wanted to say: Well, me too but I still manage to make it happen. Here is a thought: MAYBE ITS TIME TO GET A REAL JOB!

Excuse: I can only pay some of my rent because paying $200 in late fees the last month really inconvenienced my family.
This is what I wanted to say: Well was your rent late the last 2 months? YES! Well how is that my issue......wait I did say that, get over yourself!!

Excuse: Well I'm sorry, I just didn't budget for rent this month.
This is what I wanted to say: You have been on state assistance for the past 5 months, how the hell did you not budget for rent.

Excuse: I don't think it is fair that you increase my rent because we are trying to start a family.
This is what I wanted to say: If $40 a month is really going to break you, MAYBE ITS NOT A GOOD TIME TO START A FAMILY!!!

Excuse: Well I don't think that you should charge me a late fee because I meant to bring my rent in on time.
This is what I wanted to say: REALLY!!!! What world are you living in? Because it sounds really nice!

Excuse: Sorry my rent is a little short, it's been really tight because of the Holiday.
This is what I wanted to say: Holiday or not, shouldn't housing be paid first?!?

Taking the high road is not always easy nor fun, but here's the deal, at least I can fall asleep every night knowing that I did the right thing.

Shadow Boxes~Travel

"Time will never stand still and those moments that bring us such joy become memories in an instant. To capture such a moment and record it forever is truly monumental." Joshua Atticks
One thing that draws Aaron and I together as a couple is our passion for traveling. We have shared the same interests in places to travel to along with the desires of where we will go next. A goal of mine on my "List" was to create a photo album of all of the places traveled to. When thinking about how many photos to print and albums to purchase and then finding a place for in the house, I decided to rethink that goal. I have decided to create Memento Shadow boxes for each trip that could be hung on the wall. We choose a few favorite photos, gathered all of our momentous from the trips and starting piecing them together. Each Shadow box is unique in its own way and with each individual item enclosed,  it is extremely memorable.

~We hope you enjoy each adventure we have encountered together, and our story of what each item means to us!~

Nadia, Fiji 2008
Fiji was the first the first trip Aaron & I had taken out of the country ever. During this trip Aaron proposed to me. The seashell in the {Fijian} sand is the shell that Aaron brought with him to use as a prop while proposing. This shell is very special to him as it is a whole clam shell that his Grandmother found on the coast of Coos Bay. Aaron lured me down to a secluded section of Modriki Island {the island that Cast Away was filmed on} by yelling down to me that he had found "something". Without ease I trekked my way across the island to where he was kneeling down looking at something in the sand. Once I got to where he was he handed up to this shell. I was in amaze that he had found this treasure, but to my surprise the shell was not the treasure. As I examined the shell, the island sun caught the object inside and shot the most beautiful reflective rays back at me. Inside was a diamond ring, when I saw it my heart skipped a beat and I was speechless. The color photo is of Aaron & I directly after I accepted his proposal, and another black&white photo of us on the sail boat heading back to our resort {this photo was also used as a centerpiece at our wedding}
Rio De Janerio, Brazil 2009
Aaron & I wend to Brazil for our friends wedding just one month before ours, we called it our pre-Honeymoon. During this trip we got to experience so much of the Portages culture. Mike & Marian's family was amazing, they were so accommodating welcoming all 20 of us {friends/family of the Groom} into their home. We had events planned just about every day: exploring the Beach, Soccer game, Shopping, Touring the rain forest, and who could forget....The Wedding. This wedding was the most extravagant wedding I have ever experienced. The photo is a night view of Coca Cabana beach from our Hotel room {after we ditched the hostel for a private bathroom}. The section of a hand held fan was a souvenir from the Samba Dancers at the wedding, the magnet was a part of our "Welcome to Brazil" pack that Mariana made for each of us. {So Sweet}, and a hand full of coins that made it back with us.
Montego Bay, Jamaica 2009
Jamaica was our real Honeymoon. I would say that we spent the most money in Jamaica on souvenirs then any other place. Every shop/vendor preferred American dollars and it seemed that ever item was $20. We brought back man large items and gifts for other people. Because this was an all inclusive Sandals trip we ate and drank all day for FREE, so we spent our money on gifts. The beach photo is outside of our resort, you could wake up in the morning walk straight our and grab yourself a burger/pizza and whatever alcoholic beverage you wanted and sit right on the beach........ummm Jamaica me` Smile's for breakfast! The other photo is of Aaron & I on the Zip Line Tour, this trip was so much fun, tromping through the woods and swinging from the trees...{Dad, you should be proud} On this trip we also went on a Horseback ride on the Beach, we climbed the Duns River Falls, and we took a Jungle Tour. It was during the Jungle tour where our tour guide went sliding around a muddy corner too fast and landed the bus high centered on its side. {Don't worry Aaron wasn't egging him on...he would never do that}
Costa Rica/Panama 2010
Happy 1 Year Anniversary to us.......and yes we did spend our 1 year anniversary backpacking through Costa Rica/Panama. During our 2 week trip we got to see so much of the country and so many amazing things. We went to many beaches, a wild life park, banana factory, ate dinner on the C-123 Fairchild cargo plane that went down in Coast Rica in the 1980's, now a restaurant, and so much more. We found many interesting pieces of Coral, Seashells, Seeds, and Petrified wood on the beaches. In Costa Ric was where I chucked my first Coconut {barehanded} and ate it.....yuck! Note to self: do not eat any coconut that is near the ocean, it tastes like salt. Coast Rica currency was a little entertaining, the dollar bill that is at the top is
1 Million Colones...hehehehe....about $2.13 us.

Victoria, Canada 2011
Finaly, I get to ride the Ferry to Canada. It was pretty uneventful but for some reason that was a goal of mine, and I finally got to do it for our 2nd wedding anniversary. So this trip was not our typical Caribbean vacation but it worked out well and we had an AMAZING time. {Thanks Mom&Dad for the Worldmark Penthouse} This vacation was by far the best time that Aaron & I have had with each other. We started out the trip driving from Boise to Seattle, where we dropped off Autumn with a friend to travel to Grammy's house. Aaron & I stayed 2 nights in Silverdale, WA for his cousins wedding, then we drove to Port Angeles and hopped on the Ferry to Victoria, Canada. Canada was so Beautiful, I was so amazed at how well the island was taken care of. The landscaping was lush and beautiful and there was not a piece of trash in sight. If you hadn't noticed, our trend is to collect $$$ from each place visited, so yes we have included that in this shadow box as well along with a photo of us out on the balcony of our resort just before we checked out to go home, another seinc photo from the cargo room of the ferry {Aaron's creative photo idea}, and a discount coupon from the restaurant where we spent the evening of our Anniversary. Happy Birthday to Me, and Happy 2 Year Anniversary to US..........

Parenting~Teaching not only Technique but Desire

~I wanted to give you all a little update because we finished The Secret Garden audio book last night and I felt like that was a huge milestone and perfect opportunity to announce Autumn's progress with reading!~ We have now moved on to Robin Hood ~

So now that Autumn has officially hit her 100th day of school and is now 100 days smarter we are working hard on reading and writing. She is so amazing! She is loving her trips to the library and is ecstatic to come home and read me her books. We have purchased a few 1 step readers for her to start practicing on and she is blowing me away. Just the other night when Aaron & I were both sick on the couch she read herself a bedtime story.
Eloise Throws a Party!
This is her favorite book of all time, she is always wanting to read it. It had probably been over a month that she had read this book but was so impressive reading words like: surprise, apartment, doorman, and bonbons.

Last Weeks Date Night

Well we didn't technically get to go out for date night last week but we did more than make up for it!

We were invited over to a friends house to watch the UFC fight and get our drink on!! We didn't get a babysitter because we were just going to Brittany & Eric's, so Autumn & Taylor just kept each other entertained upstairs all night. {Love those girls}

The night consisted of, well you know the fight, LOTS of drinking and then a bonfire in the back yard. Good times as usual @ The Holloway's.

Highlights of the night include:
*Asking for a bottle opener & immediately handed a wine bottle opener, even though I motioned for a pop top opener {you know me too well girl}
*Forest Griffith winning {although none of the fights were really spectacular}
*Aaron & Keith beating the Beer Pong Champs and watching them do the "Walk of shame" back through the house
*My jeans being ripped off me by my husband {those were my favorite jeans}
 *Borrowing a pair of Brittany's jeans the were way to short
*Trading Brittany's jeans for the ones Eric was wearing {OMG...bahahahahah}
*Taping my severed pant leg to the outside of my sweets and asking B if "These jeans make my butt look big?"
*The look on Scott N's face when he caught me nonchalantly drinking from my bottle of wine out of the corner of his eye {there wasn't enough to be worth pouring into the glass}
*Wearing my severed pant leg home as a scarf {nice & warm}
*Aaron passing out after his head hit the pillow {he has always wanted to do that}
*Waking up to Aaron saying "I will never drink again!" {oooo those are pretty harsh words, and get up cuz we have mimosas to drink}
*Burrito & Mimosa Breakfast with Brittany & Eric {oh wow, what a night}

(Picture soon to come)
We had so much fun and I'm going to go ahead and consider that date night!
~Thank you for the good friend's that keep my life AMAZING! You know who you are!~
"Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another, 'What! You too? I thought I was the only one." ~ C.S. Lewis
Yes B, those jeans make your butt look big too!! Bahahahahah

Autumn's Family Fun Day

As part of my list I have vowed to let Autumn plan a family outing once a month. She of course wanted to go to Wahooz with a friend! So we loaded up in the car and swung by to grab Taylor and we were off to Wahooz for some arcade games and prizes......OMG....I'm getting a headache just thinking about it!
The girls were amazing and had soooo much fun, but all the unsupervised children running around made me want to off myself!
We got 87 tokens and 4 passed for laser tag and we were off to play some games. I would only give the girls 4 tokens at a time for a few reasons:

They wouldn't loose/waste them
They will have a reason to bring me back their tickets
It would keep them close
~Worked out Great~

Aaron on the other had became hooked....ummm more like obsessed with trying to win an XBox 360 and burned through his bag of tokens like nobodies business. After he blazed through the tokens he got with the $11 bucks he swiped out of my purse he was out again! So we had to refuel....back to the counter for another 87 tokens! Good job babe~lol~at least you had fun!! Well then, the lucky person that I am, found a ticked for 20 extra tokens laying on the ground behind where Aaron was playing an arcade game. So if anyone is keeping track we totally burned through 240 tokens! Fun Times

So once the tokens were all gone we cashed the tickets in, 456 tickets split right down the middle 228 for each girl. So now it was prize picking time....just shoot me now!!!! So now that I have a migraine and more useless toys, we are ready for laser tag!

Autumn & Taylor had never played laser tag but they were super excited....except....until we went into the dark scary room all geared up! Taylor started getting scared and then said "I wanna go home" with a tear in each eye! Her and I went back out to the arcade part and traded our laser tag tickets in for tokens and played some more games while Aaron & Autumn played tag!

~Nap anyone?!? I'm tired just reliving this event!But, we had lots of fun!~
*Thank you, Autumn & Taylor for a great time! {Best behaved girls ever!}

 It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who gets the credit.

Family Excursion #1 ~ Riggins, ID ~ Jan 29-30th 2011

And we're off!!!
Destination: Riggins, ID
Stops: Anywhere we want
Why: Because we can
Inspiration: Picking up Aaron's work truck from Payette
and making an overnight trip out of it.
(BTW we never did get the truck)

~ We hope you enjoy the photos of our trip~

 If this trip wasn't spur of the moment then I don't know what is. But anyone who knows my husband, wouldn't expect anything less from him. My husband has been known for flying by the seat of his pants and having a lot of fun doing it.
It was that trait that attracted me to him, and I am very thankful for my husband in keeping that spontaneity alive!
~Live would be so boring without you honey!~
Fat Boy loves the car, no matter how long the drive he will sit in the back seat and just enjoy the ride. Now, if only he knew the rule of Farting in Confined spaces! (Any bulldog owner can relate)
I can't tell you how many times I heard Autumn yelling from the back seat, "Mom, Bully's ripping it up back here"
~All windows go down simultaneously~
~Next Stop - Whistle Stop Cafe in Cascade, ID~
We pulled over to get some lunch at a wonderful little cafe with the most amazing food! Two burgers on homemade buns and a grilled cheese with fries and a salad on the side.
Nothing better than a chocolate milkshake to wash it down!
~Bottoms up~
~Gold Fork Hot Springs in Donnelly, ID~
  What an amazing place to experience. Then natural hot springs was pumped into a kinda rustic/kinda man made pool. The water was great and inside the pool you forgot that it was only 20 degrees outside.
~Yes, that is my personal beverage cart on the right....lol~
 A kiss at Sunset, in the most amazing place ever!
~I Love You, Aaron Hammack~

Destination ~ Riggins, ID
We arrived in Riggins after dark but did manage to take an off road trip down to Sandy Beach. The most amazing camping spot on the river where Aaron has spent quite a few summers camping.
~Summertime Rafting & Camping, here I come!~

 After, somewhat of a nights sleep (Bully was bugging all night), we pack up and start to meander home.
~What a beautiful view~

Mega Melt Down........OMG traveling with kids is always a challenge! I still don't even know what she was crying about!?!
But, she had an amazing time!!!
~Love you Pookie D~

~Next stop, McCall~
Iced over lake + Snowy boat ramp = Killer sledding hill!
These kids aren’t dummies, they know what’s up!
~Too bad we forgot our sled~

Picture taken just after Hakai chooses to take a dump in the worst possible place ever!! Yes, we walked to the end of the boat ramp and he feels the need to go. Naturally we are out of dogie poo bags, so I run up the hill in search for a poo bag while Aaron & Autumn stand guard over the poo so the sledders don't run into it.
~Good job Hakai~

~Monster Dog Pull (behind us)~
Bully would of kicked butt at that challenge! He was pulling me all over town, so excited to see everything!
We were the only Bulldog in the town of McCall!
~Note to Self: don't forget the choke chain next time!~
After a long trip of playing in the snow and walking around town as the center of attention, sniffing butts, and saying hello, Bully is tired and ready to go home! It must be hard being that cute!
~I love these boy's!!!!~
At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lightened the flame within us

February ~ Vegetarian Month

We'll see how this goes!
I vowed to Cambry that I would help her cross something off of her list by going vegetarian for 1 month. Check her out at http://sictransitgloriaeuphoria.blogspot.com/
She has been vegetarian for about 4 years now and swears by it. I have never been opposed to the idea but also have grown up on fresh fish and beef all of my life, and yes I love RED meat. I will take you through this experience with me documenting mainly dinner dishes that I will learn to create, {leaving the meat out of course} and the changes that I notice {if any} within my self.
Follow my Veggie Log page for recipes, and documented changes!

Parenting ~ Embracing the Growth & Development

As most of you know my daughter, Autumn has started Kindergarten this year and she is loving it! Before going to Kindergarten she had mastered writing her name most of her ABC's, and a few numbers. She has been in school for 5 months now and academically she is above average in every category except respecting others. During parent teacher conferences her teacher had stated that she does not worry about Autumn academically at all, but she does have quiet the attitude. Imagine that, I can only dream of where that came from!

Autumn had developed a love for Math (girl after my own heart) and reading (she gets this from her daddy). As I am working on getting my accounting degree I have had quite a bit of math homework that Autumn has developed an interest in. When she sees me doing my math homework she immediately gets involved. She wants me to write down math problems for her to do. 7+2=__, 2+2=__, etc. she is really good at it too. She has also learned many "sight words" for reading, she can immediately recognize: the, has, him, and, etc. Her favorite word to spell is love. As she is learning to read she has become more interested in reading books. Well I am not a reader; Aaron is the reader in our family so she has to of picked the love for books up from him. So my patience for reading stories to her is less than reliable, but I know how important it is to keep encouraging her to read.
So naturally, me knowing the importance of embracing her reading, and knowing my lack of interest in it, I have added it to my list. "Teach Autumn to read" & "Read Autumn a bedtime story twice a week" Ugh, read twice a week....... Well I have created a solution!!! Audio books (Thank you Android~Free App), I have downloaded audio books to my phone and we listen to the stories before bed. This is perfect, she can enjoy the stories and I don't have to read them! PERFECT! :)
We are currently listing to "The Secret Garden" and she LOVES it! We put the story on in the car, before bed, or whenever she is interested. The more we listen to it the more interested she is! We also told her how important it was to listen to these stories because she will most likely have to read them in school later on.

I love my daughter’s passion for learning, she surprises me everyday. Just yesterday she used evidently in the right context. She is definitely too smart for her own good! ~God give me the strength and knowledge to teach her to use it to her advantage~

Work in Progress ~ Be Grateful, But Be Yourself

My life has taken a few turns recently that has given me the opportunity to reflect on the things that I am grateful for. I would not say that any of these turns or paths were unexpected because can you really expect to always know exactly were you are going in life? Fortunately for me, I am a young, free spirited, ambitious, and adventure seeking person. I love waking up in the morning embracing the fact that I can not predict the outcome of my day. I love to live in the moment and bring on whatever dares to face me. With that being said I have had some time and will be taking time to remember what makes me happy. As I continue to find my true happiness within myself, I will create a list of things {Small & Large} that reflect my makeup.

Things that I have Missed

  1. Alfredo Sauce (I forgot how easy it is to cook with and how yummy it is! I can not stop thinking of all the recipes I have created with it)
  2. Green Beans (So good with Alfredo Sauce)
  3. Silent Nights (I do admit that I have missed the fan on stuffy nights, but the silence is so peaceful)
  4. Girl Time (Spending time with your family is the most important thing in the world, but....girls just need girl time once in a while! We need time to drink wine, bitch about our men, and just carry on like girls do.)
  5. Places (I was recently told that there is a name for people like me, OCD!?! I know. Things have places for a reason, and I love it when they stay in those places.)
  6. Urine FREE Shower (What is it about peeing in the shower that is so amazing? I have never understood that, even as a young child I can remember getting out of the shower dripping wet to pee. Is it too much to ask to just pee before you get in the shower?!?)
Things that I Miss
  1. Unlocked doors/windows (Before it had never been an issue, I now find myself checking every door and every window at least 3 times before bed to make sure they are all locked. There is something to be said for the sense of security that I felt.)
  2. Coffee on the Nightstand (the best part about this was that it was sporadic, opening my eyes to see that coffee mug just waiting for me was such an amazing feeling, and I never knew when to expect it.)
  3. Mimosa Bath's (No offence Erica but I wouldn't sit in that tub if I were dead, I feel like I need to wear flip flops to take a shower! I hate apartments.)
  4.  That One Smell (Every man has a unique but defining smell that can be detected by their woman from a mile away. When detected it will make your eyes roll back, and you have an uncontrollable urge to mutter ummmmmmmmmm!)
  5. TIVO (This is for Autumn, she can't quite get the concept that we can not pause TV anymore.)
  6.  One Room Away (Having the person you love only in the next room when you want to share those "I guess you would of had to have been there" moments)
  7. Never saying Goodbye (The quickest way to ruin the feeling of an amazing time is to say goodbye.)
The last thing that I would ever want to do is take someone or something for granted, life is short and the people in it are precious. I will cherish every moment but also make a point to not loose sight in the things that I love. How is it that some individuals are so intent on pleasing other people that they give up their own needs and sacrifice themselves over, and over, and over again? A people pleasing personality is great... to an extent. I live to see the happiness in others eyes that I have created, but how can I do that without loosing sight of what I want?
